skunk heads out for a picnic breakfast!

i'm working on getting looser with my paintings because for one, it gives the piece more movement and i think a better feel and secondly, i can paint faster. if i ever do get a chance to illustrate a real book i will be working full time as well so i need a technique that works for my schedule. the skunk above is my second attempt and using the rough sketch took me about 3 hours.*******************

this skunk was my first attempt. with all the layers and drying time took me 8 hours. although i like the brushier skunk better, i do prefer his log house.what do you think?
Hi, I do prefer your second attempt, It looks a lot more naive and I do prefer the tree trunk house. I always used to get told by a mentor of mine to draw with my left hand 'cos I'm too neat with my right :)
ReplyDeletei agree, I like the second one, and you have created one darling skunk!
ReplyDeletecute :)
ReplyDeleteyes, that's good thinking! I prefer the looser one as well! C
ReplyDeleteI like the top sketch becasue of the lightness with the white area with the nuts which indicate the topic 'breakfast' in a lovely way. Your little skunk is absolutely huggable and I am sure kids would love this.
ReplyDeleteDefenetly Brushier skunk wiht the hobbit like log house, love the red boots, and the character expression :) i think you will get that quick style you want to achieve
ReplyDeleteReally like the second one...feels much looser and better with the posturing...awesome...
ReplyDeleteTricia, this is sooooo cute! I agree, I love the design of the log house in your first attempt, but that skunk, he's just wonderful!! I really like the colors as well.
ReplyDeleteyou have a wonderful and unique style.
ReplyDeleteI prefer no. 1 personally, your skunk looks like he's on a mission, i love what look like cowboy boots! He's ace! I love his house and your colour palette too!
ReplyDeleteyour characters are so cute. Love it!
ReplyDeleteAhhh your work is so cute, Love your style.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I like that 2nd one better too. The textures and colors just have it jumping off the page with life!
ReplyDeleteAwww this is pure CUTENESS!
ReplyDeleteVery cute!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove this image- esp the top one. I love your style loads. nice work :)
ReplyDeleteI have total confidence that you will be illustrating a "real" book one day soon! Your work is just too awesome. I do like your looser style but prefer the composition of the first. Maybe loose style with texture with simple(with awesome details) composition?
ReplyDeleteWhat's all this "if I ever?"
ReplyDeleteC'mon girl; we're all waiting for you to light up the publishing world!
