open up your HATCH for a winter treat!
yeti
this is a quick gouache doodle of my yeti. i bought a new sketch book for painting and he made it to the first page. i think he'd make a great stamp. i painted him and another piece at the same time. what would that be called...art-idextrous?!
advice from Dr. Suess
"This is a field in which no one can give you pointers but yourself." (Dr. Suess)
every artist needs to read this advice from Dr. Suess. advice in a letter to a then 13-year-old aspiring artist, Howard Cruse.
thanks to Elliot for the link. he's an artist and animator and wins awards and stuff - he's on his way to Dr. Suess status (basically brilliant). check out his gallery here & some animation here.
i'm painting right now but without a camera or i'd share.
here's a pic of my boys instead. they are getting old and poopy but i still love 'em!
makin' snowman angels
In the midst of my cubicle nightmare I had another deadline that I made just in the (saint) nick of time...
I made this pack of snowman angels for the First Annual Small Fox Ornament Swap! I started them way back in October because I didn't want it rush it, crafting is something I enjoy and like to take my time with. Then slam-o, the work hit and it came down to the wire anyway. So the pics are a bit indoor-crappy and I forgot to get the back but hey, they got done!!
They all have white yarn pom-pom bodies, hand stitched wool britches, painted and glittered wooden disks, bleached and dyed trees with a glitter coating, silver pipe cleaner halo and trim, shaped feather wings, bent wire, beading and ribbon I had laying around. I stitched a back pocket on each little butt and stuck in a small candy cane. I wish I would have made 10 more. Once I had the production line going they came together pretty smoothly.
You can see some of the rest of the beautiful ornaments in the pool. A big thanks to my bloggy friend Sarah for organizing this, it couldn't be easy with 30 artist involved. I love a good holiday swap, don't you?

pigs on quilt
Tonya made this very cool baby quilt as a gift for little Zoe. My piggies made the cut and I'm so excited to see them being used this way. I've always wanted to try to make a quilt. I'm sure they are harder than they look. Tonya sure makes it look easy. I especially like her color combos, fabric mix and the black accents. Thanks Tonya for sending the pic! I hope Zoe is cuddly warm in it!
