boo

Inspired by Jennifer Murphy and all her brilliance. She has pumpkin man instructions here. My witchy-kitty was made the same way just using pom-poms. I made two, one for niece Addie and one for my big sis.
Isn't Halloween the best?!

my red door

I was trying to wait until we got the entry lockset installed to post the results of my aged door project but it's going to take a couples of weeks so...
introducing my red door...

It was easy-peasy. Here's what I did...

*First coat - tinted primer (something resembling raw wood).
*Next, take a regular, white candle and rub where you want the top coat to chunk off.
*Apply top color (as many coats needed - in my case 3).
*Use fine steel wool pad and rub any waxed areas (those areas come off chunky).
*Use fine steel wool pad and rub other areas (those areas look more weathered/distressed).
*Mix dark brown acrylic paint with water (1 tablespoon paint to 1/2 cup water) then apply to door. Let dry a bit then wipe off excess with a dry rag (dry rag - smears/ wet rag - removes more). I did this in sections and helps it look "dirty".
*Finally, apply clear sealing coat(s) and voila - aged door!

This is a fiberglass door and to the untrained eye looks like old barn wood....
ok, maybe not exactly but it's close enough!!

for the kiddies

I was contacted by Mrs. Major's first grade class for their 2008 Email Project. They write to authors and illustrators in hopes to receive a response and some recommendations for reading. Mackenzie, from the class, really liked my mushroom house painting that I did for Michelle some time ago - she liked the ladder and wanted to climb down. So I created this empty house with extra rooms for the kids in the class to fill in themselves and create their own story.
So I want to share this with you and your little ones. Please feel free to print this out and have some fun. I'd love to see what they (or you - we're all kids at heart, right?) come up with!!

lookie what i won

This is an original piece I won from one of my new favorite daily lurks, Helen of Zukzuk. Can you believe how great this is?! I thought I was getting a reproduction print but it's the real deal. Now after she gets big and famous, which is already happening, I can say I have an original hanging on my wall. If you act fast you can nab one too... she's having another giveaway! Thanks Helen - I adore it!!
