help!

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions about my new site. I think I'm going to make the entire page with art bigger as soon as I can eek out some extra time (who has that?).
So while everyone is being so helpful I was hoping for some more advice regarding our front door. We are toying with the idea of either doing a gel-stain process which will give the illusion of wood or painting it a solid color (what color?). You think being artistic this would be an easy one but I feel totally overwhelmed when it comes to decorating. Please help...what do you think?

RED RED RED RED RED!

I love how much your front entry looks just like one of your illustrations. Your cabin looks just how I imagine you would be, only more wooden and square shaped. Does that make sense?

Almost done with our swap. I'm the slowest person on the planet.

loyal lurker (again!) I think a red or a hunter green would be striking but I also think a cream or an off-white might be nice if you want to give it a softer look. I wouldn't go with the woodstain look. The cabin looks awesome! good luck - Jennifer

ummmm, did anyone say red yet?

Wow, your house is beautiful! I'm with everyone else and think red is the way to go! If you have photoshop you could colour in the door in your photo with different options and see what looks good to you.

dark charcoal, almost black. semi-gloss.
your place is fantastic, it has got to be the best place to sit and contemplate life - i hope you have had the chance.

Dark charcoal is my first vote.
Red, my second.

Ohhhh what a cute place! Love your front porch. :)

Perhaps green for the door?

Any shade that harmonizes with your art. Your home seems a reflection of that, natures palette.

It's beautiful. I like the grace of the bent log above the door, natures imperfection. Gentle, real, nice contrast to the horizontal lines.

Wow, what a fabulous home, I see all your little critters hangin' out in there, sippin' hot cocoa by the fire.
Red seems to be the popular vote but I am seeing a teal, it would pop next to that orange hued wood.

So so lovely! I'd look at some warmer colors, more gold in them, to go along with the logs!

Well, as many others have said, red is an obvious choice as is green for that rustic, at-one-with-nature vibe.

Another slightly weird idea (but one that i think would look cool if you got the hue just right) would be to think of the colour of the wood as being an orange/yellow/brown colour and then to take that colours compliment. So, i have a very interesting blue in my head...

Well, as someone who will be able to see that door in person (right? right? someday? right? haha!) I have to say I'd love to see color.

Of course red is a warm and cozy choice, but I also like the idea of a nontraditional hue: turquoise, or aqua to match the beautiful mountain sky.

(But that could just be my own repressed decorating palette surfacing after so many years of living with a beige-lover-ha!)

I know everyone is saying red.. & that would be my favourite colour of door to have too. But I find the colours red & blue on doors lend a certain formality to a house; which a log cabin is not.

To be different, I'd like to say yellow (on the warmer-friendlier-oranger-side not the I'm-going-to-be-sick-green-side) would make the place have an inviting feel. Or alternately a dark green for an "I'm just going out back to chop up some logs for the fire" kind of feel.

But red would look good too.

woodsey needs green!!! Green is the way to go. Although a red door according to feng shui brings good fortune. Definately not stained.

Hope this is helpful!

Ok, you'll think this is funny, I know I did. I woke up in the middle of the night and started pondering this and came up with a great idea-something totally outside the box. What about a shade of dark blue as in the background to the mosaic you did as you step in the door? That piece is what everything else was planned around or the slate blue color in the tile. What do you think? :) I KNOW. How many people stay awake for an hour thinking about someone elses door color? It's not the only think I pondered though, also this week's IF's "clutter."

I hope this helps. By the way, you and hubby and all have done an amazing job on Twin Buck Hill!
